What is a good go/no-go result?

Two numbers matter here and they pull against each other: how fast you respond on go trials, and how often you wrongly respond on no-go trials. A fast time with poor restraint is a bad result.

Reading the numbers: Read the bands together with your commission errors — the times you clicked on red. Most people wrongly respond on 15–25% of no-go trials, because the majority of trials are go trials and that momentum has to be actively stopped. Pushing your reaction time down while your commission errors climb is not an improvement; it is the trade-off the task is designed to expose.

How the go/no-go test works

On each trial the pad turns green or red. Click as fast as you can on green (a "go"), but do nothing on red (a "no-go"). Because most trials are go, you build momentum to respond — and stopping that response on red takes real control.

This is a classic measure of response inhibition. You're scored on your average reaction time to greens plus your accuracy: clicking a red (a commission error) or missing a green (an omission error) both count against you. Fast but impulsive scores poorly. Your best average go-time is saved locally.

What does the go/no-go test measure?

It measures response inhibition — your ability to react quickly to 'go' signals while withholding a response to 'no-go' signals. It's a standard measure of impulse control alongside reaction speed.

How is it scored?

You get your average reaction time on correct 'go' trials, plus your accuracy: how often you correctly acted on green and correctly held back on red. Fast but impulsive scores poorly.

Why do I keep clicking on red?

Because most trials are 'go', you build momentum to respond, and stopping that response takes deliberate control. Clicking on 'no-go' is called a commission error and is the point of the test.

How is it different from a reaction test?

A plain reaction test only rewards speed. The go/no-go test also punishes acting when you shouldn't, so it measures self-control, not just how fast you can click.
